Packing
- Clean all items before packing them for any length of time.
- It is important to pack like things in like places.
- Sort all items into respective boxes.
- Label outside of boxes with a description of items inside.
- Pack boxes tightly to avoid crushing.
- Keep the weight down, heavy boxes are dangerous to lift and limit the ability to stack.
Moving
- Arrange the items to form a tight fit. Leaving open space allows the boxes to shift and become unstable.
- Load truck evenly. Spread out the weight of your items to keep the truck or trailer riding level.
- Use tie downs or rope to secure items to the rails or each other inside the truck to limit the chance of items tipping.
- Allow plenty of time for the move including multiple break times to keep everyone happy and safe.
Storing
- Heavy items on the bottom three feet of space.
- Light boxes should be stored higher to help prevent crushing contents.
- Leave room between boxes. This will promote airflow around the items.
- Store item in categories. (i.e. kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, garage, living room)
- Labels on boxes should face out word for easy viewing and identification.
- Try to leave room inside your storage unit to allow access.
- Use shelving to maximize the space you have rented.
- Take your time. Storing items in a planed manner is safer for you and your goods. It can also save you money by utilizing all the storage space you have rented.
